Gut Health Nutritionist Singapore

If you’ve been struggling with bloating, discomfort, irregular bowels, skin flare-ups, fatigue, or food reactions, you’re not alone. Many gut issues aren’t caused by “eating the wrong foods” — they come from deeper imbalances that have accumulated over months or years.

As a functional-medicine-trained naturopath and nutritionist in Singapore, I help people understand why their gut is acting this way — digestion, inflammation, immunity, stress physiology, hormone shifts, microbiome imbalance, and even genetics all play a role.

When we identify these layers gently and systematically, the gut begins to heal

— naturally and consistently.

Whether you’re dealing with IBS-like symptoms, chronic bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, or food sensitivities, you deserve an approach that makes sense of your symptoms instead of just suppressing them.

HIPPOCRATES

"All disease begins in the gut."

Why Work With a Functional-Medicine Nutritionist for Gut Health?

Gut healing is not just about probiotics, detoxes, or cutting out foods.

Your digestive system is a complex network — and many factors influence how well it functions:

  • Digestive Function: Stomach acid, enzymes, gallbladder flow, and motility determine how well you break down food and absorb nutrients.

  • Microbiome Balance: Your bacterial ecosystem affects immunity, inflammation, cravings, metabolism, hormones, and mood.

  • Inflammation & Gut Lining Integrity: Issues like leaky gut, food sensitivities, and immune activation can trigger bloating, fatigue, skin issues, and discomfort.

  • Stress & Nervous System Regulation: Stress affects digestion through the vagus nerve, altering motility, enzyme production, and gut-brain communication.

  • Hormones: Oestrogen, thyroid hormones, cortisol, and progesterone shift how your gut moves, absorbs, and reacts.

  • Genetics: Variants related to inflammation, detoxification, IBS risk, or microbial composition can shape your gut tendencies.

  • Diet and Lifestyle Patterns: Irregular meals, fast eating, poor sleep, and inconsistent fibre intake all impact gut rhythm and balance.

The Lūmi·ya approach integrates all of these — because gut symptoms rarely come from just one source.

My Approach: Evidence-Based,
Personalised & Gentle

At Lūmi·ya, gut healing is never about extreme diets, fear-based nutrition, or aggressive protocols.

It is about understanding your biology and guiding your gut back to equilibrium — step by step.

1. A Comprehensive Functional Assessment

We start by exploring your digestion, symptoms, diet, stress patterns, lifestyle,  sleep, bowel habits, and overall health.

If relevant, I may recommend advanced functional tests such as:

Gut & Microbiome Testing

To assess digestion, inflammation, leaky gut markers, enzyme function, pathogens, dysbiosis, parasites, yeast, and the diversity of your microbiome.

• Food Sensitivity Testing

To identify immune-driven reactions contributing to bloating, rashes, headaches, fatigue, or irregular bowels.

Organic Acids Testing

To evaluate microbial metabolites, nutrient status, mitochondrial function, detox pathways, and hidden yeast/bacterial overgrowth.

Hormone & Stress Panels

To investigate how cortisol patterns, hormones, and metabolism influence your digestive symptoms.

Genetic Testing

To understand predispositions around inflammation, digestion, microbiota, detox, and nutrient utilisation.

These tests give us clarity on why your gut is reacting — instead of guessing.

2. Personalised Nutrition — Not a One-Size-Fits-All Gut Diet

Each plan is tailored to your biology, preferences, and cultural food patterns, focusing on:

  • calming inflammation

  • supporting digestion & enzyme function

  • restoring microbial balance

  • strengthening the gut lining

  • balancing blood sugar

  • reducing bloating & sensitivity

  • creating simple, nourishing meals that fit real life

This is real-world nutrition — flexible, supportive, and sustainable.

3. Lifestyle Shifts That Support the Gut-Brain Axis

We weave in gentle, science-backed practices such as:

  • mindful eating to improve digestive capacity

  • breathwork & vagus nerve support

  • sleep and circadian rhythm optimisation

  • nervous system calming

  • gentle movement to stimulate gut motility

These micro-practices do not overwhelm your schedule — yet they significantly improve digestion over time.

4. Sustainable Supplements (Only When Needed)

I use high-quality supplements selectively to support:

  • stomach acid & enzyme production

  • microbiome rebalance

  • inflammation reduction

  • gut-lining repair

  • cortisol regulation

  • motility support

  • nutrient replenishment

All recommendations are short-term, therapeutic, and personalised — not long-term dependency.

Who is This For?

You may benefit from working with a gut health nutritionist in Singapore if you:

  • struggle with bloating or abdominal discomfort

  • have constipation, diarrhoea, or alternating bowels

  • experience reflux or heartburn

  • have food sensitivities or reactions

  • suffer from fatigue, headaches, or brain fog

  • notice skin issues like eczema or acne

  • feel worse with stress or certain foods

  • have a history of antibiotics, infections, or hormonal changes

  • want to understand your microbiome

  • prefer a gentle, non-restrictive, root-cause approach

If your gut symptoms have felt confusing or persistent, there is a clearer way forward.

How My Work Differs

Gastroenterologists

Gastroenterologists focus on ruling out disease through scopes, imaging, and medical testing. Their role is essential for identifying structural issues, infections, and red flags that require medical treatment.

However, many people still experience bloating, discomfort, IBS-like symptoms, or food reactions even when their medical tests are “normal.”

This is where my work may be able to shed light from a different perspective.

Dietitians, General Nutritionists & Health Coaches

Dietitians, health coaches, and general nutritionists typically focus on food choices, calorie balance, macronutrients, or general lifestyle modifications. While helpful, these approaches may not explore the deeper biological drivers behind chronic gut symptoms.

At Lūmi·ya, my functional-medicine approach adds deeper layers of assessment within the scope of nutritional and lifestyle care, including including:

  • clinical-grade functional testing

  • gut microbiome and digestive analysis

  • root-cause assessment of inflammation and triggers

  • hormone + stress pattern evaluation

  • identification of dietary and lifestyle contributors

  • gentle lifestyle and nervous-system support

This provides a more comprehensive, systems-based understanding of gut health — complementing medical care without replacing it.
